The Finished Basement Home Theater
Johnson Basement Home Theater
It has always been my dream - building a home theater myself in our house for all the family to enjoy our favorite movies. My idea was to transform some of the available space in the basement into a dedicated home theater.
It all started when I decided to finish our basement; after studying numerous other home theater pictures I came across during my research on the web for design ideas, I finally came up with this theater design for our room.
It took quite some time to figure out the best home theater design to adopt, as the available home theater room is very narrow and rather long for the typical home theater layout. It thus turned out to be quite a bit of challenge transforming the available space into a dream home theater.
The challenge here was not just getting along with the best theater seating layout - one that would still allow anyone not sitting in the front row to see the screen, but also to enjoy the best home theater sound while keeping speakers to the minimum. In addition, I wanted to complement my basement home theater with a kitchenette and bar in the back for refreshments.
To avoid speaker clutter in the narrow space, I made use of in-wall speakers for all the channels; these helped provide for a cleaner look in the overall home theater design.
Main home theater decor consisted of framed one-sheet size movie posters. I have also made extensive use of cinema mood lighting fixtures such as fitting decorative wall scones with dimmable lights between the poster frames, continuous cornice up-lighting using a blue LED light rope, low-voltage recessed ceiling spots, and yes... a fiber optic star panel for the ceiling to further enhance the home theater ambiance. I have seen many of these fiber optic star panels online and I always wanted to incorporate one into my room as well!
We very much love our new basement home theater and I can truly say it was worth all the hard work.
