Sony has lost it's glory days....

by Joe Lee
(Sydney, Australia)

After reading this article, I would like to make a comment.

Back in the 70 & 80's, the Sony brand was considered as a "Mercedes" brand in motor vehicle in our community - SONY products were so expensive (some of them still are, as this article points out). I was a very loyal Sony customer for quite some years, but I have "waken up from it", I personally believe SONY has lost touch with reality. They're losing the audio market to Apple's IPOD, LCD TV's to SAMSUNG & Playstation games business to Nintedo WII & Microsoft XBOX. SONY is still living 30 years in past, embracing themselves with the four letters "SONY" as a number 1 product in the market & expects consumers to fork out "extra" to own these products.

I have inside sources quoted that 60% of Sony products are made from other manufactures nowadays & re-batched the SONY name. Most of these manufactures are unknown to Australia. SONY is utilizing its "precious name" for higher product prices.

I urge people out there to rethink: Is it really worth that much extra just for the brand name?

Thanks & best regards

J. Lee

Sony's Product Recycling Policy
by: Anonymous

Having worked for Sony development in Ginza-ku, Japan. I sat with some of the smartest brains in Tokyo and discussed the future of technology.

Granted this was in the early 90's but the development plan was designed around the Japanese throw away society. This means that the majority of the Japanese people are looking for the latest and greatest product and will most likely replace their technology every 2 to 3 years.

I can remember dumpster diving on Sunday evenings in Tokyo for TVs and radios that were being thrown away that were in perfect working condition and only a year old. The engineers at Sony developed life cycle engineering down to the solder points on the circuit boards. Why would they want to build something that lasts longer than 3 years if they want to encourage the consumer to buy the best that technology can offer during the product replacement life cycle. From rice cookers to LCD's, Sony has not truly built a reliable product since the early 90's.

I am not a naysayer but having worked for them and knowing their mentality and my past experience, I will never buy another Sony product. Hope this helps provide a little insight.
