The SBC Home Entertainment - DISH Network Alliance

What is SBC Satellite TV, now AT&T | DISH?

SBC | DISH Network

SBC Satellite TV - the result of a strategic alliance between 'SBC Home Entertainment' and 'EchoStar - DISH Network' digital satellite TV services.

The SBC | DISH Network Alliance

In a move intended to allow it to compete more effectively with cable companies, SBC Communications, the nation's second-largest local phone company, have teamed up with EchoStar to offer digital satellite television for SBC  local telephone residential customers.

SBC Communications Inc. is a large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002. SBC was a major provider of high-speed DSL Internet access, claiming 57 million nationwide access lines in 2003. The company also owned 60 percent of Cingular Wireless, the second largest wireless company in the U.S.

SBC  is offering Dish Network to its local telephone customers in the 13 states in its market. SBC handles orders, bill customers and schedule installation appointments, while EchoStar provides and installs the satellite TV equipment in homes.

SBC and EchoStar are making use of a joint call center to assist SBC Satellite TV customers.

SBC satellite TV offer combines local and long-distance phone service, phone add-ons such as voice mail, wireless services, broadband Internet access and a variety of satellite TV programming options. The latter include both a number of value packs as well as a variety of basic programming packages which one can combine on an 'a la carte' basis.

SBC satellite TV packages range from $29.95 a month to $86.99 a month, based on the number of channels and upgrades to premium channels such as HBO. It must be noted here that all satellite TV packages require a local phone line.

A HDTV programming package "HD Pak" is also available from SBC Satellite TV services for $9.99 per month when you choose the DISH 811 receiver. The DISH Network HD Pak includes ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater, TNT in HD, HDNet and HDNet Movies.
