Projectors and Projector Screens - Information
that you need to know

by Tony Hersey
(Phoenix, Arizona)

Projectors and Projection Screens:

There are two types of projectors which are DLP Projectors and LCD Projectors. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of owning a DLP Projector is not having to change a dust filter that the LCD Projector has. Color images also appear a little darker on a DLP Projector although there is no big difference in quality in our opinion.

Video projectors is a term used for projectors that are equipped with XGA Resolution 1024x768 or higher. The term video projector can be used for the definition of any projector.

Projector screens come in several different types:

Electric Screens: Screens that can be controlled by remote control or by an electronic wall switch.

Manual Screens: Screens that are manually pulled up and down by a pull cord.

Tripod Screens: These screens are portable and have three legs that can be engaged and disengaged for easy and convenient setup.

Fixed Screens: These screens are fixed wall screens that you can hang on the wall. These screens are commonly used in the home theater screen arena.

Home Theater Screens: Typically home theater screens can be electric, manual or fixed wall. The aspect ratio on a home theater screen is 16:9 which a rectangle shape is. The 4:3 aspect ratio screens are used a lot in the business arena which is more like a square shape.

Fast Fold Screens: Portable screen mattes that are attached to a metal frame that can be set up with more stability than tripod screens.

Theater Screens: These screens come in a floor mounted case that are pulled upward and are attached to a rod. These screens are great for business presentations.

Recessed Screens: This type of screen is an electric screen that is embedded in a ceiling and is hidden behind doors that open and close.

Outdoor Screens: These are inflatable screens that are blown up with an air compressor and are supported by stakes.
