King represents an interesting collection of hundreds of posters displayed over four chapters in an essentially chronological order from the birth of the cinema to present day. Each chapter contains a brief sketch of relevant film-industry history, and a number of two to four-page subchapters grouping posters by style, director, studio, actor, nationality, and occasionally, also by poster artist. |
The visual imagery is fantastic with color that seems true to the source posters. King does a good job of describing the artwork and typography so as to explain the intent of the designers. Overall, this is a well-written and informative book. Highly recommended. More info here.

'Picture Show' is a collection of movie posters from Turner Classic Movie's library of over 3500 vintage films. This is a relatively over-sized poster book (measuring 12.1x9.1x0.7inches), that reprints hundreds of movie posters. Poster pictures of lesser known films normally share the page with two to three others, while greater classics are reprinted in full page glory. |
