pick one plasma vs. led

by Mr. Chris
(Midlothian, IL)

Which TV should I buy both by Samsung, PN50B650 or UN55B8000?

I have a well lit living room in which I had to replace my 47lg50, after 15 mo. Sound is not a consideration because I have a wonderful Denon/Klipsch system. It will be mounted over my fire place, which we use sparingly. I know about the price differences but feel if the value is with Led I would make that investment.

Thanks for your input.

Samsung LED or Samsung Plasma HDTV?
by: Andrew

Technically, LCDs (LED TVs are LCD TVs) are more suitable for use in a bright environment; and if you want a TV with a low power consumption, LEDs are the way to go. Their only real problem at present is the rather restricted angle of view beyond which contrast would fall to the point that colors start to loose their saturation.

On the other-hand, the plasma you mentioned is among the best in terms of picture quality and features and has a somewhat better sound.

However, if you were to compare the B8000 with some plasma equivalent, I would say that the Samsung B860 series provides a better match in terms of features and slim profile - with a somewhat better picture quality overall even though the LED do provide a great picture when taking the best seat. Note however that their slim profile leads to a rather poor sound quality.

For some additional help on picking the best HDTV for your needs and the differences between the models in question, try to go through the reviews appearing on this site for both plasmas and the LED TV.

My best advice is to the see the HDTVs in person - possible side by side, and then pick the one you like most. In the end, these TVs are all capable of a solid TV picture.
