Matte vs. Glossy LCD TV Screens
by: Andrew Ghigo

This is more an issue of manufacturer choice. Personally, I do not mind a gloss screen on a large TV simply because if you really want to appreciate a good picture, then your viewing has to take place under a controlled light environment. And this applies irrespective of glossy or matte screens. This is basically the same as plasmas and those good old CRTs.

In addition, a glossy screen carries its share of advantageous over a matte one - in particular with respect to the 'perceived black' levels.

OK, if you need to have most of your TV viewing under bright light conditions, then probably an LCD with a matte screen would suite you better.

At the same time, keep in mind that not all glossy screens perform the same. The latest 'Ultra-Clear Panel' on Samsung 2009 HDTVs is capable of doing a much better job in eliminating glare and delivering a great picture than most other flat panel TV screens from major brands within the same class.
