Glare is Distracting
by: Anonymous

You may have a great picture on the glassy type screen, but can you see it? Most people don't have a really dark room and I love not having my chairs and couch looking on top of the great picture. If you want big you want flat non glare screen.

Matte vs. Glossy LCD TV Screens
by: Andrew Ghigo

This is more an issue of manufacturer choice. Personally, I do not mind a gloss screen on a large TV simply because if you really want to appreciate a good picture, then your viewing has to take place under a controlled light environment. And this applies irrespective of glossy or matte screens. This is basically the same as plasmas and those good old CRTs.

In addition, a glossy screen carries its share of advantageous over a matte one - in particular with respect to the 'perceived black' levels.

OK, if you need to have most of your TV viewing under bright light conditions, then probably an LCD with a matte screen would suite you better.

At the same time, keep in mind that not all glossy screens perform the same. The latest 'Ultra-Clear Panel' on Samsung 2009 HDTVs is capable of doing a much better job in eliminating glare and delivering a great picture than most other flat panel TV screens from major brands within the same class.
