DirecTV, Direct TV, or  DirectTV?
What is DirecTV?

Direct TV, or better still DirecTV®,  is the largest digital satellite TV service provider in the US.

Direct TV (or as it is correctly registered DirecTV).

DirecTV has managed to turn itself into the largest digital satellite television service provider in the US, with over 15 million customers nationwide and more than 225 channels of TV programs to choose from.

DirecTv was the first to provide the nation's first high-power direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service. It began in 1994.

The DirecTV System is the fastest selling consumer electronics product ever. The equipment consists of an 18-inch dish, an integrated receiver decoder and a remote control.

Unlike its competitor which maintains a tight control over the receiver business, DirecTv receivers are manufactured by a variety of companies.

For this purpose, DirecTV has partnered with major TV manufactures such as Sony, RCA, Panasonic, etc., to have its satellite receivers build-in HDTV sets.

DirecTV has two broadcast centers - one in Castle Rock, Colorado, and one in Los Angeles, California. These transmit digitally compressed programming to five satellites.

Four of the satellites are HS 601s built by Hughes Electronics. They are named DBS 1, DBS 2, DBS 3 and DIRECTV 1-R. The one built by LORAL is named TEMPO 2 and is the one used for the transmission of HDTV.

Direct TV, DirectTv or DirecTv?

Often misspelled by many, most often referred to as Direct TV, in reality the company's registered name is DirecTV®
