Samsung Plasma TV Review

HPN6339 63" - a giant plasma HDTV
for your home theater!

The latest Samsung plasma TV is one of the largest ever built - a 63-inch flat panel television that is broad enough - and slender enough in profile - to turn any room into a great home theater.

Samsung Electronics has created a perfect display for home theater - a huge display with an ultra-slim profile that is a true substitute to those bulky rear-projection television systems.

This state-of-the-art plasma display panel doesn't come cheap, yet in return, you will get an excellent plasma display to enjoy hours and hours of high quality entertainment.

It comes to no surprise that this Samsung Plasma TV has been consistently rated as the best selling '60-inch plus' plasma display at amazon.com.

An excellent display - Samsung Tantus HPN6339 63" HDTV-Ready Flat-Panel Plasma TV

Samsung Tantus HPN6339 63" HDTV-Ready Flat-Panel Plasma TV

The 63" Tantus Samsung plasma TV is capable of delivering exceptional vivid colors. It also supports extremely wide viewing angles both horizontally and vertically.

The HPN6339 has an ultra slim profile - making for easy placement - desk or wall mounting - of this huge display panel almost about anywhere. With its astoundingly narrow 3.5" deep, it is even slimmer than most other plasma TVs - including smaller plasma display panels in the 42" to 60" screen size range.

This Samsung plasma TV has a native resolution of 1,366 x 768; its direct-digital DVI input works with compatible high-definition DTV set-top boxes and PCs.

PC resolution is limited to 1024x768 with DVI - this in view that the native horizontal resolution of the Samsung plasma TV is 768 pixels. There's also a standard RGB computer input.

It also comes with a built-in two-tuner picture-in-picture, a pedestal stand, and a generous array of audio/video connections. Further more, the set's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD, or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (DTV receiver not included).

Additional inputs include one HD component-video input that supports 720p and 1080i as well as 480p, one SD component-video input (480i), and one each S-video, composite-video, and RF.

The HPN6339 Samsung plasma TV incorporates Samsung's proprietary video-enhancement technology known as 'Digital Natural Image engine' or DNIe; it performs 3D noise reduction, and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.

This DNIe image enhancer feature can be turned on or off according to your preference - our preference is to have it tuned off as at times, it makes some images look unrealistically clear.

The set also houses a 10-watts-per-channel audio amplifier but take note that Samsung's matching PSM6330 speakers come as optional. In a similar manner, a matching pedestal stand is also optional.

Main System Features:

63-inch widescreen high-definition plasma display with DVI and dual component-video inputs

1,366 x 768 pixel resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio matches DVD movies and HDTV broadcasts (when used with optional DTV receiver)

Contrast ratio: 1,000:1

Brightness: 700 cd/m2

Has various connections including an RGB PC input, but there are no front AV jacks.

Includes two built-in 181-channel NTSC tuners, with split-screen PIP to watch two programs simultaneously.

10 watts per channel speaker outputs (for use with optional matching speakers, model PSM6330)

Dimensions: 59.2 (W) x 35.3 (H) x 3.5 inches (W x H x D)

Item weight: 68.3 pounds

Warranty: 2 years parts and labor

Update 19th October 2008: The Samsung HPN6339 has now been replaced by newer models within the Samsung plasma TV range. For the latest plasma HDTV sets available on the market, we advise to visit the amazon storefront in view of the vast choice of products and the various buying options available from the different retailers appearing on the amazon site.

However, prior to any decision, we recommend to do some research of your own. In particular, look at what other customers had to say about their plasma HDTV following their purchase. This will give you extensive insight about the product of interest. A good starting point in this respect is the customer feedback posted on amazon.

You can search the amazon storefront without leaving our site by using the amazon search box below; your search results will appear here under.
