Da-Lite Projector Screen Fabrics As stated in one of our Projector Screen Guides, there is no magic screen material that performs perfectly for every installation. Each home cinema design has distinct and unique demands. For this reason, major projector screen suppliers like Da-Lite, have developed specially formulated optical fabrics with different reflective and colorimetric values to cope with the different home theater requirements. The details given below covers the range of available front projection fabrics for Da-Lite projector screens. It must be noted however that rear projection screen material is also available from this screen manufacturer. Though the details given below covers the most important screen materials available for Da-Lite projector screens, yet please do not consider this list as exhaustive - if for some reason you do not find a suitable screen surface for your requirement, we recommend to download the respective Da-Lite product catalogs through the links provided at the end of this article. Arrived at this page via a Search Engine? If you arrived at this page direct via a Search Engine, we recommended that prior to proceeding with your choice of a suitable screen array and screen fabric, you take a look at our Projector Screen Guides. These will show you through a step-by-step process, how to choose the right projection screen setup. They also explain the different screen surfaces, and show you how to match the screen gain with the projector output and ambient light. Da-Lite Projector Screen Fabrics: A Projection Screen solution to suit every requirement, constraint or applicationDa-lite range of front projection screen fabrics include over fifteen different screen surfaces, each designed to suit different applications, site constrains, and custom requirements. With the exception of the glass-beaded surface, all Da-Lite projector screens make use of a washable, flame retardant, and mildew resistant screen fabric. The main characteristics for each of these different projection screen fabrics are being summarized below:
Matte White:
This is the most versatile of all Da-lite projector screens and a premier choice when ambient light is controllable. It evenly distributes light over a wide viewing area while colors remain bright and life-like, with no shifts in hue. For more information on available products in the Matte White Fabric range of Da-Lite projector screens, click here.
Designed for moderate output DLP and LCD projectors, this Da-Lite projector screen surface is ideal when video images are the main source of information being projected and where ambient light is moderately controlled. With its specially designed gray base material and reflective top surface, this screen material is able to provide very good black levels without sacrificing the white level output.
Silver Matte:
A screen surface with a specifically designed silver finish. It is perfect for situations where a silver surface is necessary for a polarized 3-D projection. The matte finish of this surface successfully rejects ambient light. One of the best selling products within this range of silver matte Da-lite projector screens is the Da-Lite Manual 92" Diagonal HDTV Format Home Theater Wall Screen, also referred to as Model C with Silver Matte fabric. This screen comes at an affordable price, yet it is a heavy-duty screen that can be either wall or ceiling mounted and that incorporates a solid build spring assembly coupled with steel bearings and nylon bushes for continued smooth operation over time.
Video Spectra 1.5:
This Da-Lite projector screen fabric has been designed for demanding video and overhead LCD projection applications where a balance of higher gain and greater viewing angle is required. The special pearlescent surface may be cleaned with mild soap and water.
Glass Beaded:
This is the only exception - due to the inherent nature of the surface structure - in the full range of Da-lite projector screens that comes with a non-washable screen fabric. However, the screen fabric is still made from flame retardant material for added safety and mildew resistant. This glass beaded screen surface has the ability to achieve a higher gain by reflecting more of the projected image back along the projection axis. In other words, this is a retro-reflective surface - it is most suitable in those instances where the projector is placed on the same same side of the normal to the screen center as the audience (the floor mounted version). Glass
beads impregnated into the screen's surface provide additional reflectance.
This attribute creates an unparalleled screen surface that reproduces
vibrant life-like color at moderate viewing angles.
High Power:
High power screen surfaces represent a technological breakthrough within the range of Da-Lite projector screens. This projector screen combines the reflectivity of a glass beaded surface with the ability to clean the surface when required. Its smooth surface offers the highest gain of all types of screen surfaces with moderate viewing angle.
Da-Mat:
A smooth, white, vinyl finish surface for precise image reproduction. It provides an exceptionally wide angle of view with little loss of resolution. It is made from a highly flexible unsupported vinyl fabric and may be folded or rolled. A prime quality product in the range of Da-Mat screens designed for professional use is the Da-Lite Tensioned Ceiling Recessed 100" Diagonal Video, HDTV, Letterbox and Cinemascope Multiple Aspect Ratio Home Theater Electric Screen. It supports multi-format video through a four position masking system that can be set through the simple touch of a button! The perceived high contrast effect is achieved as the gray finish effectively lowers the black levels in the projected image. It is a flexible unsupported vinyl fabric and may be folded or rolled. Available on all models offered with the Da-Mat surface. The featured 150" fixed frame Da-Lite screen is one of the best selling screen products using high contrast Da-Mat fabric. These high contrast projector screens are available in both video and HDTV formats with sizes ranging from 72" diagonal through 240" diagonal. A unsupported vinyl surface that offers a bright, uniform image with no color shift no matter at what angle you view the image. This surface is designed to provide a higher amount of brightness for lower output projector types such as CRT. Its increased reflectivity will help enhance the image brightness in situations where a low level of ambient light is present. In particular, this Da-Lite projector screen surface is a good choice when producing video images. A suitable product for home theater use within the range of Da-Lite Cinema Vision screens is the Da-Lite 100" Diagonal Video Format Home Theater Fixed Frame Screen. More information on Da-Lite Cinema Vision screens is available here. High Contrast Cinema Vision:
A derivative from the Cinema Vision Da-Lite projector screen fabric series, this is a smooth, gray, vinyl finish surface designed for moderate output DLP and LCD projectors. This surface improves the perceived contrast by lowering black levels while offering moderate gain. It is a flexible unsupported vinyl fabric and may be folded or rolled. Available on all models offered with the Cinema Vision surface. High Contrast Cinema screens come pre-tensioned for an extra flat surface; this helps maintain optimum image quality. The 'Perf' screen fabric incorporates the same optical characteristics as the High Contrast Cinema Vision, but with a perforated surface to allow for the placement of a center channel speaker behind the screen surface. The perforated screen surface renders the screen acoustically transparent - thus allowing for the sound from the center speaker to transmit through the material. Ideal for use in environments with moderate control of ambient light. Washable, flame retardant and mildew resistant. Audio Vision:
The Da-Lite High Contrast Audio Vision screen fabric is basically an 'Audio-Vision' version of the High Contrast Da-Mat material. In fact, it has basically the same optical characteristics. In contrast to the Da-Mat fabric however, this high contrast screen fabric is designed to provide the viewer with a more realistic soundstage. Being perforated, it enables the speakers to be placed behind the screen while allowing the sound to be transmitted through the material. This screen surface is best used when there is good control of ambient lighting and a moderately wide viewing angle is desired. An affordable electric high contrast audio vision screen is the Da-Lite Tensioned 100" Diagonal Video Format Wall Screen. This has been designed with the home theater in mind. This screen can be either wall or ceiling mounted, is tensioned for an extra flat surface for improved image quality, and allows for RS-232 networking capabilities for optional video projector interface that links screen and projector for a variety of possible automation options.
