3D TV - Another technology to tug at working families purse strings

As with all technological changes and so called 'advances' there will always be those that must have it regardless of the cost (and that's not always just financial).

The fact is most people are only just adopting HDTV in its 2D form and a great many people have done that on a shoestring budget or interest free credit that never gets paid off in time.

Yes there are plenty who have furnished their houses with 16:9 replacements for their old 4:3 CRT's - lounge, bedroom and kitchen - but the simple fact is no-one can afford to throw away cash. Especially so soon on a system that looks like it will need to have a longer run of successive (and not necessarily backward compatible) improvements than the HDMI spec itself - a situation which opens a whole range of other issues for 3D content, HD audio, audio loopback etc., etc.

Sure - 3D TV is coming... so it should... and I'm sure once it no longer relies on wearing additional glasses a lot more families (think children here) will look at it closer. But right now... it's too soon for big companies to reach into the back pockets of consumers to fund their expedition into the future. The world is still recovering from the last lot of greedy suits who gambled with so many futures - however I guess at least I could see the next financial catastrophe on TV all in 3D - provided I had the TV, the content, the player, the glasses and the inclination.

Simply a case of too much too soon - and I am an adopter of technology!
